How to Pick Out the Perfect Vanity for Your Bathroom

When homeowners decide to move forward with a bathroom remodel, it’s an exciting time for them! Renovating the powder room can breathe fresh life—and value—into a home. Amidst all the excitement, however, there are plenty of decisions to be made. From fixtures to flooring to vanities, every decision should be well thought out. Here are some tips for picking out the perfect bathroom vanity.

  • Consider the upkeep. Vanities with a lot of detail—such as beading, molding, and other designs—are quite beautiful and add a nice touch to a bathroom remodel. However, they aren’t always practical. Water from the shower steam can collect in bumps and grooves, and if not wiped down, this can lead to a deteriorated finish. If you can’t live without all the detail, just make sure that the cabinets are sealed well.
  • Consider the flooring. Wood feet give vanities the look of furniture but make cleaning the floors around them very difficult. You will literally have to get down on your hands and knees to clean behind the feet. Instead, consider a vanity that rests directly on the floor.
  • Consider the sealant. If your bathroom remodel budget allows for custom-built cabinets, make sure that the craftsman seals them really well. Otherwise, they will not stand up to the moisture in the bathroom.
  • Consider counter space. If counter space is what you’re after, purchase a vanity with an off-centered sink. Placing the sink all the way to the left or right side of the vanity leaves a lot more open counter space.

When embarking on a bathroom remodel, it’s always important to price out each part of the project. That way, homeowners can ensure that they get what they really want—either by waiting and saving up more money or by cutting costs in other areas.
