How to Decorate with Mirrors

Perhaps the most exciting part of a home remodel is the decorating stage. There are a couple of reasons for this, but the main one is that you’re almost finished. You’ve spent hours upon hours choosing trims, finishes, flooring, and paint colors, but now it’s time for the fun part—tying it all together. A fun accent piece that spruces up any design style is mirrors. Here are a few tips for adding them to your home remodel.

  • Add light. Light makes any room appear larger and brighter. Try placing a mirror opposite of a window for added natural light. If a room lacks natural light, a mirror is the perfect accent piece, as it will reflect other light from candles and lamps.
  • Add drama. Placing a full-size floor mirror in your home can create a dramatic effect in a small space. Try placing one in the bedroom, living room, or even at the end of the hallway.
  • Add multiples. Try hanging multiple mirrors on the same wall for an extra bold statement. Just make sure they are in proportion to one another and don’t use small mirrors on a big wall.
  • Add the outdoors. Try placing a mirror opposite a window with a garden view. The reflection will help bring the outdoors inside.
  • Add space. Mirrors automatically make a small room appear larger. Try adding mirrored closet doors to the bedroom or a large mirror above the mantel. Another great place to hang a mirror is in the entryway, a place that generally lacks natural light. It also provides a last “check point” for everyone before leaving the house.

Mirrors are a great way to add ambience, light, and dimension to any home remodel. They are classy and timeless, and if you choose the right ones, will never go out of style.
