Kitchen Nook Ideas for Your Home

Every home has a weird, seemingly unusable space. It’s too small to be a room, but too big to be a closet. These excess spaces have affectionately been nicknamed “nooks.” Ah, the nook. What’s a homeowner to do with it, especially in the kitchen? Here are a few ideas for your next kitchen remodel.

  1. Create a cozy dining area. Built-in benches provide extra storage and can double as an inviting eating area when paired with a small table. This is the perfect place to enjoy breakfast with the family. It can also double as a homework area for the kids.
  2. Expand your storage space. Not crazy about another dining area? No problem. Add more storage instead! Built-in shelves or bookcases can store collectibles and décor, books, your fine china collection, or even extra dishes or serving plates. Our favorite idea is to build a bench with drawers underneath for added storage—that way you get extra seating and storage, plus you can build bookshelves on either side to display your favorite dishes.
  3. Make it a reading corner. Add some built-in benches topped with plush cushions, and voila!, you have a reading corner. It’ll be the perfect place to curl up with a good book and blanket on a rainy evening.
  4. Let the light shine in. Install large windows around the nook and you’ve instantly got a small but mighty sunroom. Letting all the natural light in will brighten up your kitchen or dining area.
